Fall Updates!

This week, Elizabeth had both her submitted paintings accepted into the “Best in ME. 2014” show at the Boothbay Regional Art Foundation. The reception was held on October 18th. This is a prestigious show, usually attracting several hundred paintings, In many different mediums. One of Elizabeth’s paintings is an egg tempera called “Still Life With Peaches, the other a watercolor of a storefront in Camden, ME. It is named “Plethora.” As it depicts many complicated items, such as store merchandise, and reflections of buildings across the street, cars, etc. as are most of Elizabeth’s paintings, this one is very bright and colorful.

End of Summer Updates!

As the summer winds to a close, I am busy getting ready for a solo art show in Damariscotta, Maine, at The Pemaquid Watershed Association, to be held from November 22Jan. 2. There will be a reception on Nov. 17, from 5:00-7:00 PM. Meanwhile, I also have a paintings at both the Boothbay Regional Art Foundation, and at River Arts, in Nobleboro.

In July, I attended my first workshop, a plain air watercolor workshop in Boothbay Harbor, given by Tony Van Hasseldt. It was challenging, as I am not accustomed to painting either outside, or fast. I usually labor over every single painting, but when the light is constantly changing, as it does outdoors, one is forced to speed up. My first few paintings following the workshop were very “green.” We worked on mixing tree and grass colors. I guess I was a little too impressed! They were also more “pastel” colored, and not my usual intense hues. I plan to return to my normal style. I sold a painting called the “Sarah-C” (below) of a boat in Boothbay Harbor, which sank last winter shortly after I painted it, and I’ve recently received commissions for 2 more paintings.

Award winning work at Boothbay Art Gallery

Congratulations Betsy!  This past weekend Betsy won an award at highly competitive art show in Boothbay judged by a curator from Bowdoin College.  They had accepted both of her paintings!  It was the Art in Maine 2013 show at the Boothbay Art Gallery.  Friends and family are very proud and we’re so glad she had the courage to submit!
